The Experimental Linguistics Team (ELiTe)

ELITe

The Experimental Linguistics Team (ELiTe) focuses on the experimental study of language in different research areas, such as acoustic and articulatory phonetics/phonology, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, and computational linguistics.

ELiTe is primarily involved in the research project “Speech motor disorders and visual feedback: 3D simulation of articulatory movements”, which investigates the phenomena of motor control during the speech of pathological and non-pathological speakers, with the aim to develop and test audio-visual biofeedback technologies for rehabilitation purposes. An innovative protocol of multi-level kinematic analysis, based on the synchronization of different speech technologies such as Ultrasound Tongue Imaging and Electropalatography, will lead to the development of a 3D interface for the simulation of speech production mechanisms and high resolution visual feedback within a virtual reality framework. The project is carried out in collaboration with the DREAMS-Lab, and with the research team of IRCCS Stella Maris (http://www.irccs-stellamaris.it/) as external partner.

ELiTe continues the scientific experience of the former Laboratorio di Linguistica “Giovanni Nencioni” (http://linguistica.sns.it/) and collaborates with well-known international research centers.
